Tim Matthews appointed interim Bishop's Officer for Reader Ministry

About Tim

Tim is originally from Dorset, on the south coast. He studied medicine at Bristol, before settling in St Helens in 2003. Currently, he works as a psychiatrist in the NHS, in a community based post. Tim is married to Suzanne and they have two teenagers. Tim was licensed as a reader in 2008, worshiping at St Andrews in St Helens.

His interests include the place of spirituality in mental health, he has been involved in various children's ministries over the years and how to engage children and share the good news with them in a relevant and interesting way, currently exploring through Lego! He admits to playing the piano fairly well and the saxophone fairly badly!

 

The Bishop’s Officer for Reader Ministry

The Bishop’s Officer for Reader Ministry is accountable to the Bishops for the encouragement and maturity of Reader Ministry in support of Fit for Mission and the strategic vision of the diocese of Liverpool. The role exists to support the development of Reader ministry and to value, affirm, encourage and develop Readers. The role will work in partnership with the Bishop’s Officer for Reader Ministry Emeritus (Dr Bruce Pennie), the St James’ House Reader Support Team and an emerging Reader Leadership Team

Tim will also work with the Vocations Team on the promotion, recruitment and vocational discernment of those called to Reader ministry. To ensure that the diocese of Liverpool plays an active part in ongoing national and diocesan conversations about Readers and that Reader ministry develops and flourishes in fellowship with and in support of other lay ministries.
