Synod backs trial of special services asking for God’s blessing for same-sex cou

At their November meeting General Synod voted to support the trial of special services asking for God's blessing for same-sex couples. You can read the story on the Church of England website.

Bishop John commented. “I am grateful for the work General Synod has carried out the last few days. Clearly, our work was dominated by the debate on Living in Love and Faith.

The House of Bishops will proceed to commend the Prayers of Love and Faith and consider whether some standalone services for same sex couples could be made available for use. Such commendation or authorization will come with clear guidance on how and when these prayers or services could be used by those who want to use them.

I believe the telling part of the motion is the recognition that the “Church is not of one mind on the issues raised by Living in Love and Faith, that we are in a period of uncertainty, and that many in the Church on all sides are being deeply hurt at this time”. When the House of Bishops made their statement I commented that “as we continue to work to settle this conversation we must be kind to one another.” Adding “We remain on a difficult journey, yet we know that God is with us on these difficult journeys and we trust in the Lord for us and for the church. I am here for any of our worshipping communities who need support at this time. We must not let this consume us”.

This remains true today after synod has voted.”
