Minor Repairs and Improvements Grants

First published on: 1st March 2024

The Diocese of Liverpool has secured a small pot of grant funding from the Church of England’s Minor Repairs and Improvements (MR&I) Grant Fund.

Applications for up to £10,000 can be submitted by parishes for projects that focus on urgent repairs and small-scale improvements which are essential to sustaining worship and mission.

Examples of eligible improvements would include e.g. enhancing kitchen or washroom facilities, or improving accessibility or digital connectivity, and will need to demonstrate why they are essential to sustain the worship or mission use.

What are the eligibility requirements?

How to apply

Grants will be awarded by the Archdeacons in liaison with DAC and payable to churches on completion of agreed works. All funds must be spent in full by the Diocese before the end of 2025, although we are hopeful of further funds continuing in 2026.

Churches with a clear plan to use their building for mission can apply and should contact Richard Bennett in the first instance for assistance in making your case.

Minor repairs should be identified in a recent quinquennial report from 2019 onwards and can include most items of work recommended by the Architect (or by subsequent professional survey/report).

We will aim to turn around grant awards quickly within two weeks of receiving a completed application and higher awards (up to 90% of project costs) will go to churches in more deprived neighbourhoods.
