Looking for Inspiration for your Harvest Celebration?

WaterAid is inviting churches across the UK to join its 2019 Harvest Appeal by organising a harvest supper or collection, to give other communities around the world harvests worth celebrating.

Clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene are basic human rights. They should be a normal part of daily life for everyone, everywhere – but they aren't. That's why WaterAid is working with its partners in some of the poorest countries in the world. Together, they've already reached millions of people with clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene, enabling entire communities to unlock their potential, break free from poverty and change their lives for good.

WaterAid has created a free harvest pack for churches to order, with a poster, an all-age talk outline and sermon notes, tips around how to organise a harvest supper and other fundraising ideas.

This year’s harvest resources feature the remote village of Milimo, Zambia, where WaterAid installed a borehole two years ago, enabling the village to start a community garden. Members of the community now share all tasks from watering the plants to selling the vegetables at market, even the money they make is shared to pay for the children’s school fees, as well as to maintain the borehole.

Before the arrival of clean water, Milimo suffered long dry seasons filled with uncertainty, failing crops and sickness. Now with a borehole nearby there is an abundance of food, improved health and a flourishing community - something they celebrate at harvest-time.

By joining WaterAid’s 2019 Harvest Appeal, congregations can help bring clean water to those that are still without, to make abundant harvests a reality for even more villages like Milimo.
