Church Commissioners support diocesan proposals for a new church structure in Wi

First published on: 6th September 2019

Following a formal hearing in Wigan, the Church Commissioners have decided to accept the Diocese of Liverpool’s proposals for a new structure of church in Wigan. This followed a consultation process which saw representations from those concerned about, and in favour of, diocesan proposals.

While we are pleased the Commissioners judged the scheme to represent the best way forward for Wigan, we recognise the hurt of those who didn’t agree. Bishop Paul said “This process has shown that one important thing for us as Christians is to keep listening to one another as we go forward together. We will be arranging further ways to do this in due course”

We will give further information when the written judgment is published which we expect in ten days.
