Ahead of his installation tomorrow Bishop John Perumbalath has been getting to know our diocese through a series of visits. The Bishop visited a mix of church and community projects as he traveled around different deaneries. The tour included visits to Warrington Wolves, community projects in Wigan, and a tour around Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

The week started with some crazy science assemblies led by Chris Stafford at District CE Primary in Newton Le Willows before meeting interns and others at Transform North West.

On Tuesday he dropped in on Jed's Community Pantry, walked around Marsh Green with the community chaplains, and visited the Next Generation project based at the Deanery school. It was then off to Litherland where he learned about the massive refurbishment works and plans for the future. Finally, he dropped in on St Columba’s in Anfield seeing the range of activities taking place there.

On Thursday his first stop was at Liverpool John Lennon Airport where he met the CEO and senior members of the airport team before being shown around by the Friends of the airport and the chaplaincy team. While there he learned about chaplaincy work at the airport and across our diocese. He then went on to meet students and staff At St Nicholas Academy before calling in to see the chaplaincy work and praying with some families, at the Marie Curie, Hospice in Woolton. He ended this mini tour with the young people of St James in the City answering random questions and talking inspiringly about the importance of Jesus in the lives of young people.

Bishop John said “it has been my privilege to visit church and community centres across our diocese this week. I am excited to become part of all we do in this diocese to serve God and God’s people. The task ahead of us is great and I seek your support and prayer as I embark on this journey with you.”

A big thank you to all churches and groups who made these visits possible and the many others the bishop was not able to get to this week. Bishop John looks forward to seeing more of what we do to build a bigger church to make a bigger difference as he continues to get to know us over the upcoming weeks and months.
