Liverpool Contactless Rollout 2022

First published on: 24th February 2022

Liverpool Diocese is excited to announce the launch of a controlled rollout of 30 contactless donation machines to churches that are successful in their application, with thanks to the National Giving Team for funding this project.

What is the Contactless Rollout?

The National Giving Team has piloted the project across different dioceses, allocating a number of contactless giving devices to churches in order to increase their one-time donation income. They have seen considerable increases in generosity and giving through the usage of contactless donation units as a result. Liverpool’s rollout will use the findings of the pilot to support churches in our diocese to build a bigger and more sustainable church through digital giving systems.

Why Contactless?

Research has shown that people often donate larger sums of money through giving using a card or online systems, rather than cash. COVID highlighted to all of us the importance of sustainable long-term giving solutions such as the Parish Giving Scheme, and as many secular vendors continue to move away from cash payment we can see clearly the benefits and necessity of encouraging contactless donation systems in church settings.

If we want to grow a bigger church, to make a bigger difference to see more people look like Jesus, then we must put contextual mechanisms in place in order to enable sustainable generosity.

Cashless giving is:

  • Beneficial for Treasurers cashing up and claiming Gift Aid
  • Helpful for those who no longer carry cash, or may forget to bring it on a Sunday or to an event
  • Safe and secure option, money goes directly into the bank
  • Great for occasional offices where people are likely to donate to church if the mechanism is available and easy

How will it work?

A variation of contactless donation units will be given to 30 successful applicants based on what we think would work best for that church. Some units will require broadband to be installed, Wi-Fi access, or a monthly charge for the running of the unit. The cost of the unit itself has been covered by National Church.

When can I apply?

Applications for the Contactless Rollout open on Monday 28th February.  Included with the application form will be an information pack with details about the contactless units available, case studies, benefits and will outline the support available to you. Successful applicants will be required to attend a webinar in May to equip them for adapting to digital giving.
