Josephine Butler Memorial Awards were held on Wednesday 18 May in the Lady Chapel of Liverpool Cathedral. This is where you will find Josephine Butler is depictured in a stained-glass window along with other noblewomen, alongside the new Josephine Butler Memorial Space. The celebrations were held earlier than usual this year due to the Platinum Jubilee.
The four awards went to
- Churches Together in the Merseyside Region’s Support for Asylum Seekers project (CTMR SAS) of £5,000 received by its coordinator, Neil Cunningham (£5,000).
- Faith Anglican Catholic Primary School in Everton who do such wonderful work in an area of multiple deprivation with outstanding support for the clergy notably Father Denis Blackledge at St Francis Xavier and Revd Canon Henry Corbett at St Peter’s. (£5,000)
- Sr Moira Meeghan, a member of the RC Order of Sisters of St Mary of Namur whose outstanding work on spiritual direction in the Archdiocese and the Diocese, her creative training on dementia awareness, and her real ecumenical commitment (she was a Head of Faith Primary above!) £1,000 to a charity of her choice which is the Irenaeus Project where she works
- Rebecca Richardson received the Fellowship Award of £1,000 for international travel. She is the Huyton Anglican Deanery Youth Worker and the Chaplain at Hope Anglican/Catholic Primary School as well as being significantly involved in the Triangle of Hope promoting Youth involvement (the Triangle linking Liverpool, Virginia, and Kumasi).

The Trust is running a competition encouraging students at Liverpool Hope University to develop art exploring the theme of domestic abuse and will be developing educational materials on Josephine Butler devised by students.
The Trust and Liverpool Diocesan Mothers Union sponsor events in connection with human trafficking and the sixteen days of action against domestic abuse and human trafficking.
