St Barnabas is reopening its doors as part of a scheme to encourage discipleship

Following refurbishment, St Barnabas is reopening its doors. This project is part of a Commissioner’s Strategic Development Fund scheme aiming to encourage discipleship amongst 11 to 29-year-olds.

Led by Alex and Laura Rayment with team members coming from all over the UK, they’re aiming for the church to serve beyond the immediate community, right across the city of Liverpool.

They hope with a heart for creativity, young people and the music scene of the city; St Barnabas Penny Lane will become a host for a wide range of events. They aim to assist other churches in the area with training, sending out people to plant new churches while resourcing existing ones.

Along with the congregation of St Barnabas, the team are excited to be able to reopen the church and can’t wait to see what the future holds.

St Barnabas Penny Lane Church marked their reopening of the church with a civic launch on 10 December, when Alex Rayment was installed as Priest in Charge with Bishop Paul and Bishop Bev in attendance.

Bishop Bev said "St Barnabas is a significant church with a socio-historical reach across the city of Liverpool and well beyond. Tourists from all over the world come to visit it. We are so delighted by the vision to turn this into a dynamic church bustling with life, energy and enthusiasm which will resonate and attract students and families as well as people of all ages. Revd Alex Rayment and his stunning team  have already made such a big difference in Penny Lane."
