Using the Church Development Tool

First published on: 11th June 2021

Churches who are looking to see the evidence of growth and understand their congregations better are invited to use the Church Development Tool. The tool, developed by the national church, follows principles learned by the Big Church Survey.

Using a ten-minute anonymous survey it gives you a report to help you reflect on how your worshipping communities are living out their faith within the local community and whether they mirror the area they worship in. The tool will give insights into the action you can take to develop your church. Initially, this tool is available for you until the end of July.

You will be able to access the tool on A Church Near You until July.

Your first step

Your first step is to appoint a ‘Church Champion’ who is enthusiastic and maybe even passionate about their church community and wants to help everyone learn more.  It is perfectly possible that more than one person, who then shares the responsibilities, could carry out the role of Church Champion.

The main tasks of a Church Champion are:

  • To promote the questionnaire to as many people as possible
  • Help those who need it to complete their questionnaire
  • Ensure completed paper questionnaires are entered in to the online CDT system
  • Access the online reports and insights and share them with both the church leadership and congregation/worship communities.

Once you have a Champion they will need to sign on to A Church Near You to access the Church Development Tool.
