Bishop Paul encourages churches to hold a Generosity Week in the autumn

First published on: 23rd July 2021

The Bishop of Liverpool has lent his support to the national stewardship campaign to hold a generosity week. Churches can choose the week that suits them and the national church has produced a whole bank of useful resources to support us.

Generosity Week is a "celebration of God’s generosity that is lived out in our churches and parishes. It gives us an opportunity to engage with and support the wider community as we celebrate the generosity found. This isn’t a celebration of ‘our’ generosity but God’s, which is found within the church and outside of it." Churches can hold this at any time but many are opting for the autumn to coincide with Harvest Festivals..

With churches looking for ways to encouraging giving and generosity and as disciples on the Rule of Life we are Sent to Give, holding a Generosity Week could help you and your church create a beneficial culture of generosity.

Bishop Paul said “Under our Rule of Life we believe that God sends us to give. This includes financial giving of course, and we’re summoned to give cheerfully and generously. Having high-quality tools and ideas to promote generosity in our worship communities is a real bonus and I commend this material from the national church to you. Parishes are free to engage with this as they like, but as people sent to give we have ourselves been given a gift which I encourage all to use, so that the gift of generosity may indeed flow through your church.”
