Rev Nicola Milford and Rev Neil Cook were installed as Honorary Canons at evensong this week. The installation was presided over by the Acting Bishop of Liverpool, Bev Mason, and the Dean, Sue Jones.

Honorary Canons are lay and ordained people who make a particular contribution to the life of the church. They form the College of Canons whose duties include formally electing the Bishop and bringing their wisdom and experience to the life of the cathedral. In celebrating their installation we give thanks for the diversity of ministries brought by God to us. We pray for Neil, Nicola, and all our College of Canons.

About Neil Cook

Neil has served in the Diocese of Liverpool since his ordination in 2006. In 2010 he moved to Wigan, first as parish priest of St Paul’s Goose Green and, later on, St James with St Thomas Wigan, and has been part of the Transforming Wigan journey since the start. He was installed as Team Rector of Church Wigan in January 2020, serving the seven new larger parishes of the benefice with their mix of established church communities and multiplying fresh expressions. His deepest calling is to prayer – although he admits he’s not very good at it – drawing inspiration from sources as diverse as the Korean prayer movement and Ffald-y-Brenin.

About Nicola Milford

Ordained in 2004, I served my curacy in Exeter Diocese before moving to Liverpool where I’ve served in various roles, including Self-Supporting Ministry Advisor, Minister in Charge of St. Helen’s Sefton and Team Vicar in the Mossley Hill Team Ministry which led to Rector of All Hallows Allerton.  It is an honour to serve as Area Dean alongside colleagues in Liverpool South and see God at work in the parishes here.
