Day One – 2nd February – Thanksgiving for God’s Faithfulness

The Presentation of the Lord in the Temple

“If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me,
   and the light around me become night’,
even the darkness is not dark to you;
   the night is as bright as the day,
   for darkness is as light to you.”

Psalm 139:11-12

Prayer points:

  • For a spirit of gratitude for blessings received in the last years
  • For a renewal of the foundations of our faith, in God, who is faithful
  • For confidence in proclaiming Christ the Light of the World

Light of light,
before the stars were made,
in Christ you saw with perfect sight
that by the mystery of your cross and passion
you would scatter our darkness.
Raise up, we pray, many sons and daughters to glory in our time,
and shine on us who stumble every day;
fill us again with the hope of your beloved children.
For you are the same, now and for ever.
Amen.

You shall no more be termed Forsaken,

Almighty God, we thank you that, on this day, you set your Servant Queen Elizabeth, upon the Throne of this Realm. Always possessing the hearts of her people, let her reign be long and prosperous; and crown her with everlasting life in the world to come, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Day Eight – 9th February – Peace - between nations, in communities, in hearts

“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
   my whole being shall exult in my God;
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
   he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
   and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the earth brings forth its shoots,
   and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,
so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise
   to spring up before all the nations.”
