Bishop James unveiled key stone on new church
school building.

The Bishop of Liverpool, Bishop James Jones, maked an
important milestone in the development of a new
church school building for St Elphin’s School,Warrington on
Monday 17th March. The Bishop unveiled a keystone in the
new building. Also in attendance were the Rev Mike Finlay,
Vicar of St Elphins, the Mayor of Warrington as well as local
council representatives and some pupils from the school.

The new building will eventually replace the existing school
which is no longer suitable for the need of this successful
and popular school. It is being built at a cost of £5.4m and
is due for completion in 2009. Having a new building will enable the school to continue to provide an extremely high standard of education for its pupils.

There are also exciting plans to convert the existing school building into a great resource for the local community. The current owners, the Church of England Education Trust, have agreed to lease to a local community association who will be using it as a neighbourhood centre providing a wide range of community education programmes.

Bishop James said “I am delighted to be unveiling the keystone at St Elphin’s new school building. Schools like St Elphin are a testimony to the successful partnership between the Diocese of Liverpool, the local education authority and the local community. The new building will enable the school to develop and grow and offer even better education facilities for existing and future pupils.

Rev Mike Finlay said “we’re grateful for the Bishop’s time in coming to unveil this stone. We have been planning this school for a long time and are delighted that the vision is coming closer to reality. We are also delighted that we will continue to be able to use the old St Elphin’s school building to benefit the local community”
