Training for Reader and Ordained Ministry
For those training part-time for ordained or Reader ministry, Liverpool diocese works with the All Saints Centre for Mission & Ministry. All Saints works with six dioceses in the north-west and east midlands to train women and men for creative and mission-focussed leadership in a variety of roles and particularly for ordained and Reader ministry. As well as training all Readers within Liverpool diocese, they train people for a variety of different types of ordained ministry (full-time, part-time, pioneer, local ordained ministry and self-supporting ministry, with people going into both incumbent and assistant roles after their training). The course's offices are in Warrington but teaching takes place across the region.
Who can I contact?
All Saints is a partnership between the course and the dioceses and each diocese has a member of staff who works with All Saints to deliver training. In Liverpool diocese, Rev Simon Chesters is the Director of Studies for Readers and ordinands - as well as being part of the All Saints course's teaching team, Simon works with all those from Liverpool diocese training on All Saints for ordained or Reader ministry. He is part of the diocese's Lifelong Learning team and his contact details are on the right.
What's involved?
All Saints is a part-time course designed for people in full-time or part-time employment who are training for ministry. Sessions are delivered in a mix of weeknight and weekend teaching (with residential weeks each year for people training to be ordained), with online support resources. Though the course offers the option of being accredited for a university qualification, its main focus is on preparing people for ministry. A central part of its model is linking the teaching input to practical ministry tasks both in your home church and in placements in other churches, fresh expressions or mission contexts. Many of the assessments on the course involve practical ministry tasks like preaching, leading worship, mission planning and presentations. The course is delivered in a variety of venues across the region, with one of the weeknight venues being in Liverpool diocese.
