Introduction

Liverpool Diocese has a long tradition of strong international links.

Currently Bishop James serves as one of the three Church of England delegates to the Anglican Consultative Council.

In 2005 Bishop James arranged a bilateral meeting with our twin diocese of Akure to look at the issues facing the Anglican Communion at the present time; this was followed up in 2006 by a trilateral meeting with Virginia, Akure and Liverpool.  In June 2007, delegates from Liverpool visited Virginia where similar conversations took place between Virginia and Kumasi with whom Virginia has close contacts.

Revd Canon Cynthia Dowdle (Diocese of Liverpool) chairs the Anglican Partnership and Links Forum that oversees our links with Virginia and Akure, takes an interest in Liverpool’s ecumenical link with Köln, has been involved in monitoring and promoting fair trade and will be looking at follow up to the Lambeth Conference.

Cynthia has recently been appointed as the Church of England’s contact with the International Anglican Women’s Network (IAWN) and will be supported in this task by the Women’s Issues Forum and the Women’s Issues Advisor (Helen Clarey).  In this capacity both Bishop James and Cynthia are members of the Archbishops' Council’s partners in World Mission Panel.
