Pastoral Reorganisation

Pastoral Reorganisation Made Simple

How do we support change pastorally in our churches as a result of the following:
• Falling numbers in clergy and congregation
• To further mission and ministry in our community
• To meet demands locally (e.g. a simple boundary change)
• To facilitate change created by diocesan led initiatives e.g 'Responding to the Call'.

Well it is simple – the pastoral team are ready to advise and are available to help you.

Types of Change
Include:
• Boundary and name changes
• Creation of team and group ministries
• Creation of united benefice or united parish
• Declaring a church redundant
• Changes in the use of a church

How does it work? The pastoral team will help to formulate your proposals and these are taken to the Deanery Mission and Pastoral Committee and then to the Diocesan Mission and Pastoral Committee (see page xvii of Diocesan Directory) for ratification and then a formal recommendation is made to the Bishop. This recommendation is then legalised under the Pastoral Measure 1983  which has just undergone a very extensive revision resulting in the Dioceses, Pastoral and Mission Measure 2007.
During this process it may be necessary to suspend presentation to your parish, to review the patronage of your parish and the use of parsonage housing.

The Dioceses, Pastoral and Mission Measure has given birth to a vital new piece of legislation - The Bishop's Mission Order, whereby the Bishop can endorse and authorise a fresh expression of church.
