Please note that from 6 June 2012, HMRC will phase out accepting old style claim forms. They will process the first claim after that date received on an old style form, with a warning, but any subsequent claim submitted on an old form will be returned unpaid.
In the 2011 budget, it was announced that HMRC will be introducing an online claiming system by 2012/13. The first step toward this is the new "intelligent" R68(i) claim form. It replaces the form which was previously part of the Gift Aid Toolkit CD. The updated version of this, including the new R68(i) form, can now be found on the HMRC website. This form needs to be downloaded, completed on screen, printed off and then signed and dated by the Authorised Official (usually the Gift Aid Secretary). The form makes automatic checks on some of the data as it is entered. Instructions for completing the form can be found here.
HMRC are also phasing out payment of tax reclaims by cheque, and moving to BACS payments only. The new R68(i) form no longer has an option for selecting payment by cheque. If your parish currently receives repayment by cheque, you will need to notify HMRC with your parish’s bank details via the ChV1 form using these relevant instructions.
