Marking the Hillsborough Anniversary

The Rt Revd Paul Bayes, Bishop of Liverpool has commented on the Hillsborough tragedy as the city marks its 26th anniversary

As the city and country marks the 26th Anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy Bishop Paul Bayes, the Bishop of Liverpool commented

"Marking the anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy will always be painful. This year, with the inquest hearings on-going, is particularly traumatic for the families and friends of the 96 as well as those who survived.  Coming to this city as the Bishop of Liverpool has given me a fresh insight into how the tragedy has impacted, affected and shaped this community. I pray for all affected. That they may find peace, that they may receive healing, that they may be given strength and find the hope that we all look for in the resurrected Christ."

A prayer for Hillsborough

Written by Bishop James ot mark the disclosure of the Hillsborough Independent Panel findings

In Jesus you taught us to keep on praying
and urged us never to give up
in our search for justice.
Comfort the families and the friends
of the 96 who died and all who feel their loss;
As they relive the trauma of the tragedy of Hillsborough
Hold them in the Love that holds their loved ones,
Still their minds to receive all that is disclosed,
And guide them in their journey of justice and truth
That peace might be our constant companion.
