The first ever Open the Box conversation was hailed a great success with children, family and youth leaders from across our diocese gathering in Warrington last Saturday. The conversation - facilitated by Sue Mitchell, Children and Families Missioner and Emma O’Hagan Youth and Families Missioner – saw participants be refreshed in worship and enjoy the fellowship and company of one another.
The morning was bathed in worship. Recognising that children and youth leaders often miss out on the worship in their church Emma and Sue allowed plenty of time for participants feel the presence and encouragement of God for the dedicated work and ministry they offer. Music was expertly led by Debs Davies, Worship Leader at St James in the City
, who with her team introduced us to some excellent all age worship resources.
Conversation was stimulated by recent research which challenges churches to fully listen and engage with the experiences of young people. However many present felt the real benefit was simply being in the same place as others fulfilling the same role in different churches. Understandably in church this role can be a lonely one and sharing ideas and mutual support was valued by all present.
As one participant said it was “Good to have the time, space and really great worship for me” while Katharine Grasham from Southport added “Thank you so much for Saturday, I found it so helpful and it was great to meet new people.”
More Open the Box conversations will take place in the autumn. Sign up with Sue.Mitchell@liverpool.anglican.org
