Rebuilding your Relationship with God through Prayer

First published on: 18th January 2018

Ahead of his retirement, The Right Rev Richard Blackburn, Bishop of Warrington is hosting a spirituality day: 'Rebuilding our Relationship with God through Prayer' at Foxhill, near Frodsham on 19th February.

Bishop Richard has overseen Spiritual Direction in the Diocese and the day will be free to Spiritual Directors, providing an ideal opportunity for guiding you through rebuilding your relationship with God through prayer. This will be one of Bishop Richard's last events before he retires and all across the Diocese are encouraged to come along. Those who'd like to come along, who aren't Spiritual Directors, pay £12.50 towards the cost of the day.

He told us:

“Do you find prayer difficult? Strange, isn’t it, how we can slog away at prayer – we seem to get 10 out of 10 for effort but zero for results. Perhaps we just try too hard. Perhaps we are looking too far away and have forgotten the deep insight of St Augustine ‘God is closer to us than we are to ourselves.’

In the Old Testament, we are reminded that God is the God who travels with us through the desert. In the season of Lent, we do well to remember this. This quiet day is offered to help rebuild our relationship with God – and that takes time.”
