This week Mossley Hill received two prestigious awards at the Annual Green Apple Awards for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage held at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. These are international awards and representatives from India, Germany, the Philippines and Turkey were present to collect them. Recognised by the United Nations as part of their global save our fragile planet for future generations initiative, Mossley Hill’s submission for their 'Vision Project'  was judged and awarded the following:

  • Building and Construction - Bronze Winner
  • Beautiful Buildings Heritage - Silver Winner

Awards are judged against sustainability criteria in its widest form - planet, people and prosperity and community engagement was a consistent theme of the winners.

The church’s submission for the award followed on from the implementation of their ‘Vision Project’ part of which was reordering the church so, the building could accommodate community-led events.

Mossley Hill Church was up against one other listed church re-ordering project by a nationally known architectural practice - with Mossley Hill Church awarded with the Silver to their Bronze!

Mossley Hill Church were told by the organisers that:
‘These awards should be seen as recognition of all the hard work undertaken by the church in compiling their Vision Project and overcoming the various challenges along the way to see it through to achieving the goal of successful community engagement and providing outstanding community facilities.  Well done to all involved!’

A plasterer's trowel and a green apple on a base were received in recognition of the awards.

They told the judges in their submission:
“Along with our, willing, and enthusiastic team, we are now are able to fully support events, ensuring each one is a resounding success. …Of course, with a building refurbishment of this scale, there were bound to be challenges, but it was definitely worth it! “

David Bishop from Mossley Hill Church's PCC told us
“God seems to like it when we take risks!”

You can read about what happened during the Vision Project and its impact on their congregational growth here. They held an open day in April and are looking forward to hosting another in September, where you can view the changes to the building and chat to the people behind the plans.
