The Archbishop Blanch School Choir opened a prestigious educational conference for the Church of England earlier this month. Singing two songs specially selected to resonate with the conference’s theme of rethinking resilience, they were accompanied by a dance performed and choreographed by two year 11 students from the school.

Kate Graham, Acting Deputy Head/SENCO at Archbishop Blanch School said:
“Our sincere thanks go to Andy Wolfe, Deputy Chief Education Officer for the Church of England who invited the choir to perform and worked with them closely during rehearsals.

"Thanks must go to the dedication and support of Choir Director Nikki Oztuna and, of course, the talented and inspirational students themselves.”

Held on 7th February in the awe-inspiring setting of Methodist Central Hall, Westminster students heard speeches from the Bishop of London, the Rt Revd Sarah Mullally and Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Chaplain to the House of Commons and HM the Queen.

Bishop Sarah encouraged listeners to find their identity in knowing who they are in God and to go beyond the world’s voices while Revd Rose Hudson recited powerful poems about resilience by Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou. The Education Secretary, Damian Hinds set out his vision for children to build character and resilience.

Later students participated invited leadership workshops and were also treated to private tours of Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament, thanks to Luciana Berger, MP.
