Our new Archdeacons Designate

we can announce the names of our new Archdeacons Designate who will be joining us to help our diocese in our agreed aim, to get fit for mission.

Our new Archdeacons Designate are:-

  • Jennifer McKenzie: Archdeacon-designate of Wigan and West Lancashire.
  • Roger Preece: Archdeacon-designate of St Helens and Warrington
  • Pete Spiers: Archdeacon-designate of Knowsley and Sefton.

Provided all legal processes for their Archdeaconries can be completed we expect that they will be formally collated on Saturday November 14 in the Cathedral. The Bulletin will be giving more information about this in the autumn.

Bishop Paul said: “From a large and extremely strong field of candidates we have been able to appoint three excellent clergy who will enable us to move forward as we seek to become a bigger church making a bigger difference in our communities. Together with Archdeacon Ricky, and under Bishop Richard's guidance, they will form a great team to challenge, support, equip and encourage clergy and parishes across our diocese.

We have a tremendously strong Core Group and wider staff team. Our three new Archdeacons will bring experience and energy to enrich us still further. I am confident therefore that the ideas in "Fit for Mission" will be implemented wisely and creatively across the Diocese. I pray for Jennifer, Roger and Pete, and for their families, as they prepare for this next step.”

Bishop Richard added “I know from experience the importance of Archdeacons and the pressures on their time. So having a team of this calibre with the ability to work proactively to support the leadership of our diocese will be invaluable. God has called a group with a wide range of experience to join us, I look forward to welcoming and working with them and like Bishop Paul pray for them all at this time of transition.”
