We celebrate the licensing of 17 new Lay Readers

Our cathedral hosted a magnificent service as Bishop Richard licensed 17 new Lay Readers and celebrated 100 years of Reader Ministry.

Bishop Richard licensed 17 new candidates to Reader Ministry in a service at Liverpool Cathedral last Saturday. The Readers will join the ranks of the Reader Association in Liverpool all who offer a valuable teaching and preaching ministry in churches throughout our diocese.

It was an extra special occasion as we also celebrated 100 years of Reader Ministry in our diocese.

Simon Chesters, Director of Studies for Readers, said

"It was marvellous to see 17 people licensed as Readers in the Cathedral and it's been a real privilege working with them over these past 2 years of initial training. 17 people is a very large group of people to be licensed in one year-group - and the remarkable thing is that we have the same number of people starting training as Readers this year. We are greatly blessed to have so many people continuing to come forward to train as Readers - those from Liverpool make up over half of those beginning Reader training this year with the All Saints course in the north-west."

Congratulations to our 17 new readers and prayers as they commence their new ministries.
