We are committed to supporting training and equipping you in your ministry. This will enable you to develop your understanding of the Bible, its history and relevance in today's world. You will also receive plenty of practical support. Training can seem daunting but we offer plenty of support to help you succeed. You do need to be committed to the process which we outline below.
You wil take three modules each year. Two of these are delivered on weeknight evenings (one module in the first half of the year and the other module in the second half); one module is delivered at weekends on six study days throughout the year.
Once training begins, you are on placement in your home parish. Your incumbent is expected to offer appropriate supervision and the opportunity to develop new skills, preach and take part in leading worship. Some time after Christmas of the first year, you will do an external placement in a different setting.
Preaching and worship-leading
In both home and external placements you are expected to be involved in regular preaching and worship-leading.
During the two years of the course you will be expected to read the whole Bible. Don't panic. We give guidance and resources available to help you do this.
Our diocese also has a structured programme of post-licensing training. You will need to do this in your first two years after you are licensed.
