For many of our children and young people this time of year is plagued with the stress, pressure and anxiety of exams season.
Keeping focused and motivated during study leave, retaining all the information they need, and having clarity to understand and answer the questions posed in the time allocated is a challenge. For many these exams can have a profound impact on their future (or it can certainly feel that way) and they can be carrying not only their own expectations and hopes but those of their family, friends and teachers too. For some they will enter the exam room already resigned to failure, feeling dejected and helpless with future options and opportunities limited.
Please be praying for the children and young people of our diocese during May and June as they sit GCSE, AS and A2 Level exams and assessments. You may like to use these prayers, written by our Youth and Families Missioner Emma O’Hagan:
Thank you for the young people in our church, community and this diocese.
Thank you for our education system and that learning can be accessed freely.
Thank you for all those who have taught and supported our young people to this time of examinations.
We uphold our young people in prayer today.
Grant them all the fruits of your Spirit so they may know your peace, do their best and trust you for their future.
Holy Spirit, come.
Flood the hearts and minds of our young people.
Comforter, calm all fears and bring peace.
Healer, still all nerves and bring clarity of thought.
Helper, move all distractions and bring knowledge.
Holy Spirit, come.
Reassure our young people of your presence, love and grace.
You made each of our young people.
In their mother’s womb you knit them together,
And all their days are written in your book.
As they sit examinations this summer please help them to know;
Your presence with them in the examination room,
Your peace within them as they answer questions,
Your provision for them as they explore their future.
Have you young people in your church? Ask for a copy of their exam timetable and commit to praying for them on the day of their exams, remembering them before God by name.
Please remember our young people over the school summer holidays as they await results and particularly on the following days when their results are released:
AS and A2 Level Results Thursday 13th August
GCSE Results Thursday 20th August
A prayer for results day:
Father God, may your presence be felt as young people receive exam results today.
May they know their worth and value is not based on academic achievement but on your great love for us.
Help them to trust in your goodness, fix their eyes firmly on you and guide their steps along the path before them.
