Bishop Paul licenses the Venerable John Day as interim minister at St Mary’s and St James West Derby and mission consultant within our diocese.
A taste of the Antipodean comes to West Derby on Sunday as welcome the Venerable John Day to a new interim role within our diocese. John comes from being Archdeacon for Mission in Christchurch New Zealand where he was the lead Anglican for Fresh Expressions as well as teaching the mission shaped ministry course.
John comes with a track record of launching new congregations and steering churches through the, sometimes painful, process of change. Having seen service in a number of urban parishes in England and New Zealand, John brings a new perspective to ministry in our diocese.
John’s role will be split between acting as interim minister at St Mary’s and St James West Derby with acting as mission consultant for the diocese where his role will be to work alongside the Archdeacons to offer mentoring and support to specific clergy and consultancy to parishes with strategic needs.
Bishop Paul commented “As a diocese seriously pursing our growth agenda and looking to be fit for leaders and fresh ideas. In that context it’s a pleasure to welcome Archdeacon John Day as interim minister at West Derby and as mission consultant in the diocese.
"John will bring added depth and resource to our ministry here. I am particularly excited that he has accepted the challenge of helping us think through changing churches and the whole area of intentional interim ministry. I pray for John and Stephanie they start this exciting ministry with us.”
