A radio advertisement featuring a jubilant voicemail message from Joseph announcing the birth of Christ is to be broadcast on local radio in the run up to Christmas Eve.
The ad will run on Radio City and Radio City, City FM and Magic 1548 Liverpool, and has been funded by Mersey Christmas, which is made up of the Diocese of Liverpool, The Salvation Army, the Methodist Church, the Northwest Baptist Association and Together for the Harvest. Joseph announces the birth of Jesus by saying, “Woo hoo, I’m a dad!”
The bigger Mersey Christmas campaign also includes a facebook page (www.facebook.com/merseychristmas) where churches are posting details of their events, as well as a dedicated website www.merseychristmas.co.uk where people can download and customize their own posters and find a church to go to this Christmas.
Churches and local organisations are also being encouraged to buy a poster for their local bus stop sharing the message that Christmas Starts With Christ.
Mersey Christmas is part of the National Christmas Starts With Christ campaign which this year has the slogan 'However you dress it up - Christmas starts with Christ'.
Stuart Haynes, Media Manager at the Diocese of Liverpool and Mersey Christmas co-ordinator said, “Recent research by Theos reveals that only 12 per cent of adults know the Christmas story in any detail – and the figure drops to just 7 per cent among 18-24 year olds. To keep Christmas focused on Christ, we want to tell the story of his birth in ways that engage positively with the public. We hope that a proud father sharing the news of the birth of his son is will strike a chord with most people.”
