Making it easier to manage church finances

We announce courses that cover every aspect of stewardship

Our stewardship team have organised a series of courses this autumn that will help churches manage their finances and think about that all important giving question. National figures released this summer showing that churchgoers in our diocese give an average of £7 per week. But they also revealed churches spend on average £10.60 per churchgoer per week highlighting the challenges we face.

The courses on offer enable churches to have a balanced look at the tools and techniques that will help control their expenditure as well as looking at a range of ideas to increase income and grow our giving. We have the return of our Annual Treasurers and Gift Aid Secretaries conference. Then we have a morning of workshops where we hope to Make it Easier for you to run your church finances. This includes looking at Legacies, Friends Groups, PAYE, Fees, Small Gift Donations Scheme and the new Parish Giving Scheme. We will also welcome national Church of England representatives to explain the benefits of the bulk purchase Parish Buying Scheme.

We welcome back Eleanor Gill, National Funding Officer who will deliver a capital funding workshop and say hello to Daniel Jones from the charity Stewardship with a seminar exploring digital giving.

Steve Pierce, Director of Stewardship commented “good stewardship is the critical lifeblood of any church. We want to make it easier for churches to maximise their income streams and manage their finances well. This series will have something for anyone who is interested in helping maximise the resources they have for the mission of their church.”
