Joyce Roberts, Chair of Liverpool Church of England Council for Social Aid was awarded a MBE for services to the community, particularly Women.
Joyce Roberts has served on the Advisory Group of Church & Society for over 17 years.
For the last 11 of these she has been the Chair of Trustees of the Diocesan Council for Social Aid. Established in 1823 this is the leading Diocesan Charity on women’s empowerment and penal affairs. Its wider work includes supporting pan-Diocesan work on domestic abuse and women’s issues. However the bulk of its activities focus on Adelaide House an Approved Premises (approved by the Ministry of Justice) for women most of whom are offenders. Adelaide has a national reputation for quality care, person centred development programmes and has won many awards for its innovative work.
Joyce has served on Bishop’s Council and on the committee of Operation Eden which became Faiths4Change and sits on Diocesan Synod.
Joyce is the Lay Chair of Widnes Deanery Synod and has been very active in the extensive pastoral reorganisation that has taken place in the Deanery.
All of this has been done as a volunteer alongside her work in her parish of St Ambrose Widnes where her husband Dave is a reader and active involvement in the Widnes Foodbank which is supported by all the churches in the area.
