The Archbishop of York, The Most Rev Dr John Sentamu will be visiting the Diocese of Liverpool today and tomorrow.
The Archbishop of York, The Most Rev Dr John Sentamu visited the Diocese of Liverpool last week at the invitation of the Rt Rev James Jones, Bishop of Liverpool. He met with clergy and toured the Diocese to see for himself the wide range of work being done in the mission of God.
Highlights from the visit included:-
• The confirmation of over 170 people from the Wigan Deanery alongside The Bishops of Liverpool and Warrington at Liverpool Cathedral on Thursday March 10th
• A visit to St James in the City, Liverpool where he helped celebrate the announcement of a major grant from English Heritage.
• Trips to two schools
- the Hope Academy in Newton le Willows where he took a tour of the only academy which has Sustainability as its specialism.
- St Luke’s CofE Primary School, Halsall Crosby where he opened their new development
The Archbishop also visited a cafe church in the centre of a deprived estate, worshiped at a church in the shadow of Anfield and hosted a breakfast meeting with all clergy in the Diocese and attended a supper meeting leaders from across Merseyside.
Bishop James said "We welcome Archbishop Sentamu to the Diocese of Liverpool to see some of our initiatives in mission."
