Christ Church Norris Green was presented with the Child Friendly Church Award from the Diocese of Liverpool this week.
The award was presented at a special celebration service on Sunday 10th August. Sue Wade, Children and Families Support Worker at Christ Church said “Fantastic! The award reflects the commitment and devotion of the people of Christ Church to both the family of God and the families of Norris Green.”
The aim of the Child Friendly Church Award is to both encourage and enable churches to provide children with the very best possible experience of church, by involving them in the full worshipping life of the church from as early an age as possible.
The award was pioneered by the Diocese of Liverpool in 2004 and many other Dioceses across the country are now also using the scheme.
Sue Mitchell, Children and Families Missioner at the Diocese of Liverpool said:
“The Child Friendly Church Award is a way of enabling churches to focus on how they welcome children and their families into the full life of the church, and most importantly helps provide the church with the tools and ideas to do this .We believe strongly in supporting our parishes; that we are all ‘Journeying together for the growth of God’s family’.
Recent national research has highlighted that the churches with a higher ratio of children to adults were the churches that, year on year, were growing.
This process also acts as a useful tool encouraging everyone to consider their own gifts and talents and how they can be used to help their church grow in other ways too.”
Rev Helen Edwards added ‘We love having a congregation of all ages at Christ Church and are delighted to be presented with the Child Friendly Church Award. Christ Church is a church of local people – being friendly seems to come so naturally in Norris Green and our welcome extends to all! Well done to all our children and families, to our church and community volunteers and to Sue our Children and Families Support Worker!’
