Bishop James has spoken over his worries on the effect of debt on people and families. Speaking to the Daily Post, the Bishop said "as a pastor we see the effects of policies on people's lives and there is no doubt that people are feeling a huge pressure of debt at the moment".
The Bishop was commenting on the Government's pre-Budget report where the Chancellor cut VAT. He said "the plan is to spend other people's money and that takes you more and more into debt".
Bishop James spoke on a similar theme when he delivered the Hugh Kay Memorial Lecture in 2004. Read the full lecture using the download on the right of this page.
