Mary Hawes, National Children & Youth Adviser for the Church of England talks to us about her hopes for the Open the Box conference in October
I'm really looking forward to being part of Open the Box. It's exciting that Liverpool Diocese is focusing on ministry with and among children, young people and families. I can't wait to hear what the other speakers have to say.
I'm hoping to share some of the latest research that the Church of England has done to discover what helps root children a young people in their faith. It's important to look at the wider picture because it's easy to only focus on our own situation. Looking out as well as in gives us the chance to glimpse a new vision. But it's also important for those of us who work at a national level to keep connecting with parishes because that's where the transformational Kingdom work happens.
Family life has changed greatly over the last couple of generations. But what hasn't changed is the need to share God's love shown in Jesus with them. I hope that Open the Box will help us to catch a new vision for this that is right for the children, young people and families of our parishes.
